Living in Full Colour

The beginning: living in darkness

I hid in an abyss, cowering against a cold hard wall, surrounded by nothing but darkness, fearful of the possible creatures looming beyond my sight

1 closed my eyes and called to the stars

I spoke all the poetry within me into a supplication

Begging the stars to grant me one wish, should they deem me worthy I prayed for mercy, “deliver me into a brighter, warmer, lighter existence”

I tucked my body into itself and let sleep overcome the looping question in mind “would the stars listen?”

The midpoint: a call to a colourful life

A steady knock roused me into consciousness and I opened my eyes to a bird beckoning me at the entrance to my void.

When our eyes met, it spread its wings and danced to a tune I couldn’t yet hear.

Its beautiful feathers were a work of art which mesmerised me as it bounced around, practising a leap then a fly away

Behind it, brushstrokes of white, deep blue, violet, a gentle red, and finally orange

Was this a dream or could it be…a wish come true?

The eternal continuance: the freedom to live

I steadied myself onto my feet and took one tiny step after another towards the light

And oh my, the world I discovered when I emerged from my dark chamber

Dense greens, thick browns, bursts of yellows

Tall things, old too; tiny ones, still young

Rough and soft textures spread across acres

I planted myself into the ground, spread my hands wide to become a tree among others, and welcomed all the sky had to offer: sun, rain, wind, rainbows

This is life. I am alive.
